Antony Price, Renowned for Styling David Bowie and Duran Duran, Has Died Aged 80.
Antony Price, the visionary UK-based designer responsible for a series of unforgettable images associated with musical icons like Bowie and members of Roxy Music, as well as Queen Camilla, has passed away aged 80.
Price was best known for his defined forms and theatrical styles, such as the light-hued ensembles that featured in rock band Duran Duran's landmark music video for "their hit Rio".
"They honored him as a 'visionary' and a 'kind, intelligent and razor-witted friend,' the band released a statement across their platforms."
Price's death comes just weeks after he presented his newest line in London, his first in more than 30 years. Singer Lily Allen modelled a dress that paid homage to the notorious black velvet "revenge dress" historically worn by Diana, Princess of Wales.
A Lasting Legacy
Hailing from Yorkshire, where he was born in 1945, Price moved to London in the early 1960s to study at the renowned Royal College of Art.
Shortly after his graduation, he started his work in menswear at the company Stirling Copper and was responsible for the tight, button-detailed trousers that rock legend Mick Jagger famously wore during The Rolling Stones' "Gimme Shelter" tour in 1969.
He launched his own brand in 1979 and presented his inaugural collection a year later. The show was launched by looks from supermodel Jerry Hall, who was also seen in the wedding dress Price specifically designed for her marriage to Sir Mick Jagger.
Collaborations with Icons
A frequent collaborator of the late David Bowie, Price designed the distinctive jacket the singer wore for his "the song As The World Falls Down" music video in 1986.
His trademark skill to blend elements of men's and women's fashion along with his technical proficiency in crafting form-fitting garments made him a "genuine original," in the words of the British Fashion Council.
In the 1990s, he commenced designing ensembles for Camilla, now Queen Consort, including a number of outfits for her American tour following her marriage.
After a career spanning half a century, Price presented his final runway show in London last month in partnership with the fashion brand 16Arlington.
