Approximately fifty cars have been marked with what appears to be human bodily fluid in the German municipality of Hanau near Frankfurt, police confirm law enforcement.
Cars, walls and postboxes were marked, sometimes with prohibited symbols, they announced in a official communication.
Law enforcement say they were notified late on Wednesday, when a resident discovered that a automobile in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been covered with a red-colored fluid.
The liquid had been drawn in the shape of a swastika, they added.
Police then discovered many other smeared cars and house walls in the adjacent neighborhood.
These symbols are banned in Germany under regulations outlawing the visible presentation of symbols from the Nazi era.
Officials report initial examinations suggest the substance was likely human blood.
"There is still no lead as to its origin; officials are presently not cognizant of any harm in connection with the incident," they commented.
Municipal representatives stated they were working "to solve the case" and have asked to the public for tips.
A senior representative commented the vandalism rendered him without words and required to be resolved rapidly.
"This event strikes at the center of Hanau and revives the trauma of the extremist violent incident five years ago," he wrote on social media, referring to the killing of nine people by a shooter focusing on residents of migrant background in February 2020.
