Battlefield 6's Casual Playlist Sparks Intense Discussions Over Bots, XP Rewards, and Queue Times
Over the weekend, Battlefield Studios launched a fresh playlist titled Relaxed Breakthrough. In essence, this option resembles the regular Breakthrough format but features a few notable adjustments:
- Each team has only 8 real players, with the remaining made up of AI-controlled opponents.
- Activities performed by real players award full XP, while AI activities offer lower rewards.
- Only two maps can be played: Siege of Cairo and Empire State map.
- Elements like Dogtags, accolades, and career stat updates have been turned off.
In short, this mode lives up to its name: it offers a laid-back version of Breakthrough. On the surface, you might think it's a good idea, as it gives additional choices for gamers seeking different ways to have fun with the game. But, gaming history has shown one thing, it's that you can't please everyone. In other words, many Battlefield 6 players are upset.
Player Responses: Anger to Praise
"Gamers prefer real players. Avoid making the mistakes of your rivals," reads one reply to the official announcement. "Truly disappointing concept," comments another. At the same time, in community forums, a player remarks, "It's unclear where we are headed with this game," and someone else lists all the issues they believe to be broken in Battlefield 6: "Fix bugs, address drone issues, fix IVF rockets, fix [the] bloom after sprinting bug, fix awful hit registration. We don't need this AI-heavy playlist."
However, amid the criticism, there are players explaining how much they're enjoying the recent addition. "It's enjoyable to warm up, human participants prevent it from being a total farmfest but it's quite laid-back," reads one Reddit comment. "The community doesn't understand that there are gamers who actually go outside and don't play this game 24/7. Allow them to find a middle ground," states another. One reply on Twitter clarifies that as they're "a battledad with limited time, this is great for me," and someone else applauds the mode for "not being overcompetitive."
Constructive Concerns and Player Feedback
Despite the support, there are valid points to complain about Casual Breakthrough. Some users have highlighted that it will make queue times more extended for different playlists due to the sheer number of playlists in the game already. On a similar note, certain regions already encounter AI-filled matches in the current modes. It also seems somewhat counterintuitive that the mode won't start without a minimum number of real players, despite it focuses mostly on fighting AI opponents.
Finally, one of the biggest grievances is that a previous feature was promised to provide full XP, including AI matches, but that was removed when they attempted to remove XP farming from the system. So this new playlist feels like the community compromising halfway, as per a Reddit comment. A different user describes this mode as the developers "dropping the ball significantly, I experienced so much fun in the first couple of days, what prompted them to change it?"
Future Prospects: Will Changes Occur?
If the development team has demonstrated something to date with Battlefield 6, it is that they're listening and acting on feedback. Tasks being too difficult got fixed rapidly, as did the required Redsec challenges. Chances are that, if their data shows this recent mode is underperforming to their standards, they won't be shy to change it again.
