Israelis have come together across the country to remember 24 months since the Hamas-conducted attack on that fateful day in October 2023, as talks continued in Egypt over a conclusion to the conflict in Gaza.

The incident led to more than 1,200 people killed and 251 others taken away to Gaza as prisoners. It was the uniquely deadliest day for Jewish people since the Second World War.

Israel answered by initiating a military offensive in Gaza which has claimed over 67,000 people, based on figures from the region's Hamas-administered health ministry. Its numbers are considered accurate by the UN and other international bodies.

"The aggressive adversaries have struck forcefully, but they have not overcome us," Benjamin Netanyahu stated on that day.

He also promised to "achieve all the aims of the war: the return of all the kidnapped, the elimination of the Hamas government and the promise that Gaza will never again pose a danger to Israel".

Memorial Events Across Israel

The Israeli government rescheduled official commemorations until 16 October - after the end of the religious holiday season - but gatherings still occurred across the country on Tuesday.

A commemorative event for the relatives of Israelis who died in the Hamas assault was conducted in the coastal city. Arranged by the affected families, it was broadcast on Israeli television channels.

A period earlier, a silent tribute was observed throughout the country.

Negotiation Talks in Egypt

At the same time, Israeli and Hamas negotiating teams gathered in the North African coastal city of the Egyptian city for a continuing round of mediated discussions to review the terms of the agreement.

A prominent Palestinian official familiar with the discussions said that an late session of indirect talks started at evening in Egypt.

The representative said the morning session ended without significant progress, amid disagreements over the proposed Israeli withdrawal maps from Gaza and over safeguards Hamas wants to guarantee Israel does not restart combat after the opening period of the arrangement.

He added that the discussions are "tough and have not yet achieve any significant progress," but pointed out that intermediaries are working hard to narrow the differences between the conflicting groups.

Critical Points in Talks

  • A lasting halt to fighting
  • The trade of the prisoners still kept by Hamas for inmates from Gaza
  • The pullout of troops from Gaza
  • Arrangements for humanitarian aid distribution
  • After-conflict administration of the area

Civilian Reaction

In Tel Aviv's memorial area that day, 29-year-old a woman - whose family member lived through the attack on the outdoor event, where hundreds were murdered and numerous more were abducted by Hamas fighters - shared: "Nowhere feels like home anymore and until each abducted person are released not a single person will be secure."

"Once we see everybody home once more, we can breathe once more. Then we can commence heal," she continued.

Near Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's home in Jerusalem, people assembled to demonstrate their solidarity for the relatives of the captives. Israel says 48 remain in confinement in Gaza, approximately twenty of whom are thought to be living.

Demonstrator Atalia Regev remarked: "It's necessary do whatever arrangement required for the abducted to return. But we truly desire guarantees that we will be protected."

Surveys now frequently demonstrate that about the majority of Israelis prefer the conflict to end in exchange for the freedom of the hostages.

Gaza Circumstances

At the location of the music event, grieving people came together to honor the dead.

From that location, the sound of military attacks and explosions could be noticed just a brief space away in Gaza, where observers reported the heavy Israeli bombardment continued.

In the urban center, attacks were documented in the dawn of that day in the west side Tal al-Hawa, area and zone districts and in the east side neighbourhood of that sector, as well the camp to the north-west.

"When the dusk falls, the dread arrives with it," relocated urban resident Emaan al-Wahidi, whose young son was lost his life by an Israeli aerial attack last year, described.

"My family are terrified of the air strikes. Throughout the evening we are resting together, clinging, particularly my little child who places his head on me all night."

"Continuously we look at the news to see developments. And I'm afraid that this truce will not be achieved and that the fighting will resume to us."

Medical Crisis

The medical facility in Gaza City said it had received the bodies of half dozen people by the afternoon, including a trio who lost their lives in an Israeli strike in the southern district.

Nasser hospital in the southern city of that area said two more fatalities had been transported. A person was died by Israeli troops while attempting to get aid to the south, health workers stated.

Gaza's health ministry said twenty-five of the {territ
