The Mighty Nein's Introductory Sequence Selected the Incorrect Popular RPG Show Song

The Mighty Nein, the most recent animated adventure by the beloved role-playing group, revealed an exciting opening credits. It showcases our favorite cast of misfits, misfits, and criminals kicking ass and taking names, while teasing at multiple agonizing backstories for key figures such as the voice actor's wizard Caleb, and another actor's orc warlock, the character Fjord.

Overall, the opening appears stunning. But I couldn't help feeling that something was lost in the song choice.

This sequence uses "Welcome to Wildemount", a truly stellar song created by artist Colm McGuinness. This piece from the soundtrack album of that title, the second one released by the production company's record label Scanlan Shorthalt Music. It's a wonderful sentimental option, and I believe that fans of the second campaign will appreciate its inclusion.

Personally, The Mighty Nein's opening doesn't quite capture the hype and energy that accompanied the second campaign's actual-play adventure. "It's Your Turn", composed by musician the artist, was an instant classic in my view when it was first revealed in that year, and it improved further when co-founder Sam Riegel wrote words to the melody for the series' animated intro in the later year.

Including singing from Ashley Johnson, another performer, Travis Willingham, as well as Riegel himself, the track was memorable and enjoyable. Back then, I hadn't seen the follow-up series at that point, but this was such an earworm that I kept it on my device. It's a song that excites you before you dive into an installment of fantasy hijinks.

The Mighty Nein's opening with "the new song" fails to hit the right notes in my opinion. It's a grand composition, but from what I know of the group, I feel that its tone is a little off.

Naturally, the creators has stated that the animated show will have some changes and variations from the original live sessions. A tonal change for its opening appears as one of them.

This animated adventure will be released on Prime Video from November 19. If you can't wait until then, or want a head start to learn about the personas of the second series, the actual play are accessible on Spotify and YouTube.
