The Renowned Musician Encourages Public Help to Send Palestinian Solidarity Song to UK Holiday Chart Peak.
A fundraising initiative is aiming to launch a traditional song from Palestine to the Christmas number one spot. The effort hopes to send support to people in Gaza while also spotlighting Palestinian culture and creativity.
An Opportunity for Unity and an "Chart Upset"
Composer and producer Brian Eno, who features on the track, stated that the single 'Lullaby' represents a chance to stand with Palestinians this festive season. He noted the potential for an unlikely festive coup.
“That would be amazing if that happened, yes,” he said. “I’m not gonna be completely let down if it doesn't manage to, Christmas singles are a thing unto themselves.”
Defiant Message of Dignity and Freedom
Palestinian singer Nai Barghouti, who performs on the adaptation of a traditional lullaby called Yamma Mwel El Hawa, explained the track's powerful central theme.
“It has a deeply meaningful spot for many individuals,” Barghouti said. “The message is that I would choose to perish with honor than exist without freedom. That’s the main theme of the song; we want to live a respectful existence that we merit as a people.”
Production History and Star-Studded Lineup
The single was laid down after a large-scale benefit event held in the autumn. Originally intended to be done as a live recording, the rendition was cut from the show due to scheduling overruns.
The diverse array of performers appearing on Lullaby features a selection of acclaimed names from the scene. All were part of the benefit event, which reportedly raised a substantial amount for relief efforts.
Creation and Launch
Lullaby was brought to life by a group of music creators. The song blends a combination of the heritage language with contemporary English verses.
The team running the campaign have emphasized that their objective is to generate maximum funds for a charitable pot. These proceeds will be channeled to Palestinian causes through an partnering humanitarian organization.
“There is no a fixed goal,” a spokesperson explained. “We’ll go for the maximum achievable. Naturally, the more the merrier. Every penny goes out to those in need in Gaza.”
The reality in the region was described as its extreme devastation, with a huge proportion of property reportedly in ruins or severely impacted.
“Given that reality, a couple of million won't make an enormous impact. But I think what truly matters is primarily raising awareness for this issue and showing there’s another side to the story.”
The track is scheduled for release this Friday. Additionally, a full recording of the charity concert will be made available for streaming on a major video platform from mid-December.
